After his acquittal, Jackson wanted his court clothes locked. He told Bush. "I never want to see these things again."
Dressing Michael up for his 2005 trial was a challenge. "If Michael had walked into the courtroom wearing a black suit from the store, he wouldn't have looked like himself," said Bush, who worked with Tompkins to create conservative MJ-flavored clothing. The jackets were mostly black or in dark earth tones. "Once we did something crazy and created bright blue," says Bush, "but even Michael said, 'We can't do this.' So they perfected the vests Michael wore under his jackets. However, Jackson's behavior during the trial may go a little far, jumping on the roof of the car in front of applauding fans. Bush explains: "I think he was probably like 'oh, oh' after that ... but he was just Michael. He had been on stage all his life and thought, "If they want to come see me, I have to offer them something."
