Durante la visita di Michael alla Città di Hong Kong nel 1987, egli ha incontrato il cantante Alex To che ha trascorso del tempo con Michael, ha scattato una fotografia con lui e firmato alcune foto. Dopo che Michael è morto, Alex ha pagato per un statua a grandezza naturale in rame da collocare in Shan Yuan, un bellissimo tempio situato in Tuen Mun, Hong Kong. Davanti alla statua c'è una targa con la frase di Michael: "Io continuo a ballare e ballare ... e ballare fino a c'è solo ... la danza."
La statua è stata inaugurata il 7 ottobre 2009. Alex ha invitato la moglie di Jermaine Jackson e la figlia Alejandra Genevieve Jackson alla cerimonia (Jermaine non ha potuto partecipare a causa di un viaggio in India). Il musicista Howard McCrary, un amico di Michael che ha lavorato con lui per l'album Dangerous e che ora vive a Hong Kong, ha cantato "I'll be there" e ha contribuito per la presentazione.
