On this date in 1980, “Rock With You” hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, Michael’s third single to make this achievement. American music critic Steve Hyden says it’s his favorite song of all time, one reason being “The part where Michael sings, ‘Girrrrrrl, when you dance, there’s a magic that must be love,’ is the most purely joyful moment I’ve ever heard in a pop song.”
