"We Are the World" an amazing charity single from 45 American artists USA for Africa (United Support of Artists for Africa) was released. The song, calling for unity to help the l Africa, was written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie and is designed in the genres of popular music and gospel. The project was produced by Quincy Jones and Michael Omartian. The song was included in the album of the same name. The group was assembled specifically for the recording of the famous hit single We Are The World in 1985. Throughout April, the song was number one on the US and UK charts.
All proceeds from the sale of the single were donated to the USA for Africa Foundation, organized to provide financial support to those affected by the famine in Ethiopia in 1984-1985.
"We Are the World" combines features of music: the voices of a large choir, and the form of a crossover, the song combines the genres of pop music. It is a moderately slow tempo composition written in the key of E major. The song opens with a calm intro by Lionel Richie, followed by Stevie Wonder's piercing vocals, with Michael Jackson joining in on the chorus. Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, Ray Charles and Cyndi Lauper provided the strongest vocals. “Laying on top of each other, the voices create a constant effect of surprise and evoke a sense of emotional uplift,” wrote The New York Times journalists.
