Hi everybody! I have been a dedicated M.J. fan ever since I heard Thriller way back in 1982. He thrilled me with his songs and dance through school, College and office place.
I have had possibly five unfortunate incidents, and M.J.'s passing away affected me badly. It had almost the same impact when my Dad passed away.
I wish to dedicate 51 Immortal Songs of M.J.'s as a part of the 2501 songs I am already engaged in. Each piece would contain the video link, song facts, Album facts and interpretation of the lyrics if required.
Hoping for a positive response from all of you for this effort of mine to keep the great man in our hearts.
About the song:
‘Who is it’ was a brilliant effort by M.J. as he penned the lyrics and composed the music.
The song is a Soulful one, with Michael belting it out with regret and hiding his tears. The organ and the drums provide the melancholy he feels, and the lyrics sweep you off the floor.
Despite M.J. levelling his accusations and betrayal, one can't help shaking their legs with an angry look on their face.
The song is about a girl, ' Alex' ( Played by Yasmin Le Bon), whom Michael falls in love with only to realize she's a ' call girl' and ‘serves’ the rich. Jackson does not initially know this, and he only suspects her of having an affair with someone else he may know.
He voices these suspicions in the form of (many) questions he never receives an answer.
The video directed by David Fincher throws up more light into this dark number. She does turn out to be a high-level escort and has multiple names like Eve, Alex, Diana etc.
The calling cards are revealed, and M.J. is shaken to his roots. He decides to leave her but is unaware that she has fallen in love with him and has quit her profession.
With MJ leaving her, she returns to her old profession. The video is very descriptive as it shows her different ' masks' with the ' make- up ' team changing her face for various clients.
The song was a hit, but M.J. never performed it ' live' on stage except once on an Oprah Winfrey show. The official and the one with Oprah videos are ‘linked ‘here.
