QUANDO IL RE TRAVOLSE SANTIAGO Il 23 ottobre 1993, alle ore 21:00 in punto, il tornado Michael Jackson travolse i 78.000 spettatori dell'Estadio Nacional di Santiago, inaugurando così l'unico concerto cileno del suo strepitoso Dangerous World Tour.
A dire il vero, il Re del Pop avrebbe dovuto tenere due show a Santiago; ma il primo, quello del 21 ottobre, venne cancellato a causa delle condizioni di salute di Michael, depresso per le false accuse di abuso su minore da parte dei Chandler e sempre più vittima della nota dipendenza da analgesici.
Questo suo stato precario ebbe ripercussioni anche sul concerto del 23 ottobre, durante il quale MJ apparve spesso privo della solita, straripante energia.
In alcune performance, nonostante la temperatura piuttosto mite, lo si vide anche indossare delle giacche sul classico costume dorato, come se fosse in preda di una costante sensazione di freddo.
Lo show, filmato integralmente da uno spettatore e tuttora disponibile su Youtube, ci riserva comunque alcune curiosità che vale la pena raccontare. Vediamole insieme.

JAMQui Michael appare stanco, affaticato, forse malato. Durante la performance si muove poco, cosa molto insolita per i suoi standard.
A un certo punto, qualcosa sembra distrarlo: lo si vede infatti richiamare l'attenzione della sicurezza indicando verso la direzione del pubblico, per poi correre e dire qualcosa nell’orecchio di uno dei membri dello staff. La sensazione è che la cosa non riguardi in alcun modo gli spettatori, ma che Jackson voglia far accendere i ventilatori posti di fronte al palco.
In tutti i casi, la sua non sarà una grande esibizione, molto probabilmente a causa degli effetti collaterali dei farmaci.
WANNA BE STARTIN' SOMETHIN'Qui il pubblico canta il testo della canzone insieme a MJ, il che lo aiuta a non sforzarsi troppo con la voce.
Durante il bridge, il Re del Pop non riesce a tenere le note alte alla perfezione.
HUMAN NATUREPer buona parte dell'esibizione, Michael indossa un giubbino nero sopra il costume dorato, prestatogli dal suo costumista Michael Lee Bush.
Da notare che lo stesso identico giubbino Jackson lo aveva già indossato esattamente un anno prima, durante la tappa del Dangerous Tour a Bucarest, in Romania.
A un certo punto della performance, MJ se lo sfilerà e lo lancerà sul retro del palco.
I JUST CAN’T STOP LOVING YOUStranamente, anche qui Michael indossa una giacca, tra l'altro la stessa indossata per la foto di copertina del singolo di Who Is It, del 1992.
Musicalmente, la performance risulta leggermente diversa dal solito, e anche il batterista Ricky esegue un finale alternativo.
SHE’S OUT OF MY LIFELa ragazza fatta salire sul palco è letteralmente al settimo cielo: quando si ritrova davanti al Re del Pop, lo abbraccia con tanto ardore da non consentirgli di cantare.
Alla fine, ci vorranno ben due bodyguard per staccare le sue braccia da Michael!
THE JACKSON 5 MEDLEYStavolta Jackson indossa la giacca blu di Jam, già utilizzata durante la prima parte del Dangerous Tour.
Vocalmente, si può ammirare un MJ in ripresa.
BILLIE JEANFin dalle battute iniziali, i cori ricordano molto quelli del precedente Bad World Tour.
Musicalmente, abbiamo delle linee di chitarra in più che restituiscono all'esibizione un sound differente.
WILL YOU BE THEREMichael non indossa la solita camicia bianca, ma la Berlin Jacket, chiamata così per nessuna ragione in particolare, a detta del suo creatore Michael Bush.
Per intenderci, sarebbe la giacca nera con le spille colorate sulle braccia, indossata anche per il servizio fotografico del 1992.
BLACK OR WHITEJackson esegue una parte del brano sulla gru, sorvolando gli spettatori in delirio.
Finalmente, pare che il Re del Pop abbia riacquistato un po’ di energia, e ciò verrà confermato dalle esibizioni successive.

23rd October 1987 - Michael Jackson's one-day trip in Chinese mainland.
When Michael Jackson's China fans are groaning that they will never see the King of Pop on their homeland, it is rarely known to the public the pop icon actually dropped by a tourist attraction once in Guangdong during his vacation in Hong Kong in 1987.
Liu Guangzhi, Jackson's guide then, couldn't hold back his excitement speaking of the megastar's one-day visit of a guided trip in his hometown.
"For most of his fans here, it's a pity he never visited Chinese mainland, but hardly have they known that he was here once 22 years ago," Liu added.
Michael Jackson is a man with few words but very friendly, Liu said of his first impression of the pop icon. "We are not able to have an in-depth talk on any subject, but he mailed me our photo with his autograph on it through his agent later," Liu continued.
The children and the seniors, who took photos with Michael Jackson during his tour of their village, also received the pictures from him. Many of the villagers still have the photos in house.
Michael Jackson had two of these photos published on his autobiography, commenting under one snapshot "I can't resist babies. In China, 1987".
Liu is grateful to Michael Jackson for the pictures, he said, "it's a cherished memory for us all, and Michael helped us to keep it".
"Though he's not with us any more, I still remember his kindness. He's the unparalleled King of Pop, I'll keep the memory of him in my heart forever."
