Vienna (Austria ), 2 giugno 1988 - Michael Jackson accende i 55.000 spettatori del Prater Stadium con l'unico, storico concerto in terra austriaca (e quarta tappa europea) del suo iconico Bad World Tour.

Un vero e proprio uragano che travolse lo stadio stracolmo al massimo della sua capienza, tanto che il giorno successivo un articolo AP titolerà: «130 fan sono svenuti durante lo show di Jackson».

E appena poche ore prima, nella mente di MJ si era già accesa l'ispirazione di quel Capolavoro che - con la sua straordinaria contaminazione di pop, rock, lirica, gospel e blues - lo avrebbe poi consegnato all'immortalità come l'artefice di uno degli inni di protesta ambientalista più solenni e più amati in assoluto nell'intera storia della musica: la potentissima 'Earth Song'.

ALLA CONQUISTA DI TORINO

In questo giorno di 36 anni fa, 29 maggio 1988, Michael Jackson illuminava lo Stadio Comunale di Torino - strapieno di 53.600 spettatori - esibendosi nell'ultima tappa italiana del suo iconico Bad World Tour.

Palpabile l'emozione generale quando il Re del Pop, durante l'esecuzione di 'Man in the Mirror' al termine del concerto, si rivolse al pubblico urlando un italianissimo «VI VOGLIO BENE!», ricevendo in cambio applausi, acclamazioni e manifestazioni di affetto come in poche altre tappe del tour era mai capitato, e come potrete ascoltare nel breve audio che vi postiamo nei commenti.

Quello del 29 maggio 1988 a Torino è un concerto del quale finora si credeva non ci fosse nessun filmato a nostra disposizione. Batten, known for her original approach to the electric guitar (and her nearly-as-legendary hair!), rose in the music industry when she was selected to play in Michael Jackson’s BAD tour. She would go on to play lead and rhythm guitar on the Dangerous and HIStory world tours, as well, and joined Jackson for the 1993 Super Bowl halftime show. She also appeared in the “Come Together” segment on “Moonwalker”. For any fan of MJ, both her performances and her striking presence are an unforgettable part of ‘80s and ‘90s-era Michael Jackson.

In addition to her work on stage with Jackson, Batten has had her own vibrant career. She has released three solo albums, worked closely with Jeff Beck for several years, has authored two music books and released instructional DVDs, and did a guitar residency for the Cirque Du Soleil show “Zumanity” in Las Vegas. In 2016, she received the She Rocks “Icon” award, and was inducted into Guitar Player Magazine’s “Gallery of the Greats”. Batten continues to tour regularly, and has shows coming up around the world, including Michael Jackson tribute shows.

MICHAEL JACKSON NON SAPEVA LEGGERE UNO SPARTITO, MA FACEVA MOLTO DI PIÙ

È vero, il Re del Pop Michael Jackson non era in grado di leggere uno spartito. Fu confermato più volte anche da lui.

Era in grado di immaginare la musica, di progettarla nella sua mente senza avere bisogno di alcun tipo di supporto dove scriverla. Sapeva suonare praticamente ogni strumento, ma nessuno con particolare abilità.

Questo forse è dovuto alle particolari condizioni di sviluppo avute con il padre e i Jackson 5, che di certo non gli hanno consentito di studiare musica in maniera canonica. Sono in molti però che hanno riportato le incredibili abilità di Michael Jackson nel creare musica e che hanno assistito a sessioni di registrazioni di un intero brano che usciva solo dalla sua testa.

Basti pensare a John Lennon, Paul McCartney o Tom Yorke. Sono tutti artisti che non sapevano scrivere musica in maniera canonica, ma hanno trovato il loro modo di farlo. Questo non gli ha impedito di essere acclamati in tutto il mondo.

Altra piccola curiosità ..oltre a non sapere leggere gli spartiti Michael Jackson non sapeva fischiare e non sapeva neanche fare l'occhiolino.
